Why does my dog keep coughing?

It used to be that my 4 year old poodle mix dog only coughed when he got overly excited. Lately, he has been coughing costantly all day long. The sound he makes is like a cross between a cough and a goose honk. He hasn't been aroud any other dogs except his furry siblings. Social distancing has made getting him to the vet difficult. Any ideas what this could be?

I know Walt already gave the perfect answer, but just to reiterate - definitely call your vet! If your vet is closed there should be other vets in your area that are open. Most will start with a phone call and advise on whether you should come in (some vets are offering curb side pick up). As Walt said, it could be Kennel Cough or seasonal allergies. But it could also be a cold, he/she could be more excited than normal with everyone home, or it could be something more serious. I would also recommend that you take some extra precautions with your pet right now. Give him/her a really good bath with dog shampoo or at the very least rub him/her down with dog cleansing wipes. Make sure to clean his/her paws. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after petting your dog. Good luck and I hope your fur baby feels better soon!

It could be kennel cough or it could be seasonal allergies, there is no way anyone in this forum can help you diagnose what is going on; you should be contacting your vet

I had a dog I was watching that would reverse cough all the time, startling me constantly. I moved all the furniture, did a throughall disinfect, sweep, vacuum and mop. After I finished magically his cough stopped! For kennel cough a bit of honey in their food will treat it and make cough go away in week.

If you try both and cough still persistent, then call vet and see what they recommend
