Why won't my dog eat dry dog food?

I have changed my dogs dry food because every time I would feed her she will try to what looks like bury her food. She only does this to the dry food and it doesn't matter what brand of dry I try to give her she will do attempt to bury the food and maybe take two bites then walk away. She only wants to eat wet food. Why would she be doing this and should I be worried?

Has she been eating wet food her entire life? It may be that the wet food is just so delicious that she's being picky about the dry food. You can try to mix some dry food in with her wet and slowly transition her to all dry food. Or moisten the dry food with some chicken broth.

She is still young but does she has any problems with her teeth? It could be unpleasant to eat dry food.

I wouldn't be too worried if she's just being picky. My dog is the same age, and he sometimes goes days without eating (intermittent fasting?). If I put a little wet food in there, he gobbles the whole bowl up. Your dog realizes that if she doesn't eat the dry food, she gets her preferred wet food.

Try to stir some dry food in with some wet food and see if she eats it all. If not, take the food away and then she'll learn that she has to eat what she gets now, or not get anything.

Good luck!

My dog does the EXACT same thing. She tries to put blankets over her food bowl and always buries her bones. My dog doesn't like to eat right away, as she isn't super food-obsessed. I think she likes to hide it and then go back to eat it later when she's hungry. She likes to try and hide it from my other dog so he doesn't eat it also! You could try adding peanut butter, pumpkin, or chicken broth to promote eating the dry food. Otherwise, you may want to try a new dog food. My dog is super picky and hated her old food but seems to enjoy her new food better. I use Royal Canin now, but there's lots of good food brands around! Definitely do some research and make sure if you switch to do it gradually so it doesn't upset their stomach.

Good luck!
