What to do if I can feel stitches under my dogs skin that haven't dissolved?

My dog got a few mammary tumors removed about a year and a half ago, and we can still feel the 'dissolvable' stitches under her skin. Is this normal?

It can take up to 10-14 days for sutures to dissolve. And the incision can still feel "lumpy" after that. Scar tissue, scanning, etc. But if you are concerned with the healing after those 2 weeks, you should probably visit your vet to make sure all is well.

What you're feeling is likely scar tissue rather than the stitches. It's common to feel a raised or bumpy area along the suture line where harder scar material has sealed the gap.

It may not be stitches at all. It could be scar tissue that has hardened. Your best bet is to have your vet check it out to be sure.

As long as your veterinarian used disposable stitches, they have dissolved and you may feel scar tissue bumps. However, I had a dermatologist who "accidentally" left a suture in my for a surgery once! Never hurts to ask!

I highly doubt it's the stitches, and most likely just cartilage build-up from the surgery. I wouldn't be concerned!
