How much do you charge for pick up?

Hi,

I have a potential client asking for pick up at their home when their dog boards with me. It's a service I have no problem providing, but this client lives about 45 minutes from me, and I am contemplating what an appropriate pick up fee would be for that distance. I will also be dropping the dog back off at home at the end of the stay.

My normal pick up rate would be about $5 per 15 minutes of driving to pick up or drop off. For short notice longer distance requests, I was thinking to add $5 to the transport fee.

Would $20-$25 dollars for each round trip (70 miles) be reasonable? I will also be driving there and back during a heavier traffic time frame, and the owner requested this booking on short notice.

Thanks for your feedback!

I have mine set up by miles vs. time. $10 up to 15 miles but within the limits of my community I wave the fee. I did have one lady about 20 miles away and charged her $50 round trip and she was fine with it. Hard to figure - I go high to discourage it, but for 70 miles I'd charge at least $65

Think about the value for other services- for example, an Uber ride of that length would easily cost $30+ each way. So I think $50+ for the round trip is more than reasonable.

I charge $20 and live in a large urban area, but won't go more than a couple of miles away because of traffic. Remember, Rover now requires that pickup and dropoff fees are combined. It used to be billed each way.

I think $20-$25 each way would be a reasonable charge to provide the pickup and drop off service.

I have many repeat clients that I offer it for free. If the location is outside of my threshold , 5-10 miles I don't offer it at all. So its free or not at all. :-).
