You are responsible for manually adjusting your rates to fit the individual needs of your clients. Rover calculates your rate based on the number of nights the dog will be staying with you, and it's generally assumed that a "night" consists of about 24 hours of care, say from noon one day to noon the next. Rover does not track specific drop off and pick up times, so it's up to you to determine how long the dog will be in your care. If the dog stays beyond that 24 hour time frame, you can manually adjust your rates to include a daycare fee to cover the extra time. So if you have a request from Friday evening to Sunday evening, the dog is in your care approx 48 hours and adjustment probably isn't necessary; however, if they request care from Friday morning to Sunday evening, then the dog is in your care two nights plus a few hours on the last day, and if you wish, you may adjust the rates to reflect that. I do so by adding a daycare fee to the "additional charges" box in the stay info. Be sure to discuss all plans with the owner and explain any rate changes clearly before booking the request.

I always in my introductory letter explain a night is based on a 24 hr period. If there is more than a 2 hour overlap, I charge anywhere from 1/2 day (5-6 hrs) to full day (leave before bed time). I specifically request accurate drop off and pick up times. I also add those additional fees in additional charges boxes.

I really wish Rover would do booking like car rental to include drop off time and pick up time so it calculates charges automatically. It also adds this level of awkwardness when thrifty owners think they should only be charged 1 night for a 7am drop off and 9pm pick up. That's really technically two days!

Also I think by requiring them to input times in to the booking, they might actually feel beholden to sticking to them. Cannot tell you how many clients that assume I do not have a life and dropping off 5 hours late or picking up 2 hours early (when I am not there but at the store buying groceries) is okay. UGH!

I am just experiencing this firsthand with my first request. They basically are getting a whole day for free but I clarified that since the dog is in our care the cost of it needs to be met. Gave them the cost for it and will adjust if they want to go through with it. I appreciate this conversation thread!!! Thank you.

This is the most common problem you will find here, and it is not just in this one question. Always find out dropoff and pickup times before it is booked. If there's an overeage, modify the booking so it is paid right off the bat. I've never had an owner balk when I've explained the 24 hour bit.

Thanks! I just do the traveling so where would I add that charge if they wanted me for the 3 full days?

I believe the additional charges box is still present for you. In your conversation, click the "Edit" link next to the rate shown, and it will give you the ability to add/remove/change all your rates as necessary.

I see, holiday rate, additional dog and extended stay. Or do I change it when they request to book with me, is that where it is?

You have to have an open conversation (stay request) to see this box, because this isn't a rate that you set ahead of time, but a space to add any additional charges you might have, such as if the owner also wanted you to water plants or feed fish, which are specific to the request.

Oh ok thank you!
