Suspected scam from client?

Hello,

I am new to Rover and was incredibly excited to get my first dog walking/sitting request. The request is for dog sitting/walking February 25th-28th. The owner of the dog requested I email him at his private gmail, so I did. However, his response is sketchy for a few reasons. 1. He is asking me to attaching photos of myself 2. He is requesting information from me such as my address and phone number 3. there is no talk of those days he requested in February, instead he says he is new to the area and looking for a temporary/permanent person to take care of his dog. He also says in the email that he wishes to add me to payroll so he can send me a check soon to secure my services.

I would appreciate advice on this case and how I can stay safe and avoid any scams in the future as I use Rover.

This is a scam, report to Rover.

In order to avoid falling for scams in the future keep in mind that asking for personal information, insisting on communicating via personal e-mail or cell phone, and mentioning check payments are all red flags.

You will likely receive these types of inquiries from time to time, however these people have no intentions of actually utilizing your services. Do not comply with their requests and you should be safe.

Good luck!

I think I just received the same request. It request to walk for March 19-25th at 4pm everyday but the “dogs” don’t make sense and it’s two boxers with 20lbs as their weight and everything clicked as yes for adaptation. He requests to email him privately but his last name isn’t the same as his Rover

I think I got that same exact request.

Same! I got two separate requests, but both of the messages asked to respond to the same personal email address. 2 boxers 1yr5mo 20lbs and 30lbs. Oddly, I received email and text notification but it did not show up in the app.

I got a similar message and I followed up by suggesting a meet and greet and to keep communication through the Rover site. The person never replied, so definitely a scam.
