Does Rover get a portion of my income from pet sitting gigs that I find independently?

I have already started a pet sitting visit, but just found out about Rover and thought I might find more clients this way. I understand that for any clients who book through Rover, Rover will get 20% of my income for that job. I'm wondering if the same applies to clients who book with me directly, or through my own Facebook - am I contractually obligated to pay Rover 20% of all my income earned in pet sitting? Or only the ones arranged through the site?

Only those customers who contact you through Rover. Remember, it is against Rover's TOS to book any of those contacts outside of the platform. But you wouldn't owe Rover anything for those customers you find outside.

You are an independent contractor. You are not an employee of Rover. There are many sitters/walkers who not only list their services with Rover but also with other companies (like WAG) and those who operate completely independently.

Of course you don't pay Rover 20% of your own income. Rover is a 3rd party platform, just like Lyft or Uber or Postmates etc. They take their cut from Rover transactions only.

Just for clarity's sake, if the person finds you through Rover, then it has to be booked through Rover, and yes their percentage will be deducted from the booking total before you're paid the difference.
