Is there a way to get reviews of the owners?

Hi Rovers! I'm new to the community and am wondering if there's a feature that allows sitters to review owners? Or is it appropriate to ask owners for references? The reason I ask is that I received a request for a month-long house sitting for 2 dogs and a cat, but the owner and pet profiles are rather incomplete (compared to others I've seen anyway). Is this normal? Am I right to be wary? Any advice is much appreciated :)

Incomplete profiles are fairly common. Some people don't understand their importance, others are just rushed. The fact that they've at least listed their 3 pets is a good sign. You can always suggest they complete the profiles while you are in the booking process.

Asking for references could be a little awkward, plus how are you planning on checking them? Some sitters have questioned or been affronted when a customer asks for their references.

Instead, do a very thorough M&G and be sure to add these steps:

  • Go through the house. You'll be able to tell what kind of people they are if the house is clean and be sure to tell that you will leave it in the same condition. Make sure it is the kind of home you could stay in.
  • Verify the number of pets (sometimes people don't really own up to how many there are).
  • Find out what their expectations are (other tasks they may ask you to perform) and decide if they fall within the parameters of the service you are offering. I would imagine they will want to know how their dogs will be cared for while you are at work during the day.
  • Be sure to ask if anyone else has keys to the home and whether they may just show up.
  • Find out about cameras (where they are) or just act like they are there at all times. Some sitters have encountered owners who will call them if they see them doing something they don't like or just call them constantly. Try to get some sense of their monitoring level.

Good luck!

I would be kind of weirded out if a sitter asked me as the owner for references. It’s pretty normal for profiles to be incomplete and it’s something you’ll just have to get used to seeing.

Hi Krystal, thanks for your input!

I think sitters should be able to leave a review on an owners profike!
