Will my dog remember another dog after one meeting, that didn’t go well?
My family recently adopted a two year old husky mix. We had been warned that she might be aggressive towards other dogs, but so far, she had met three other dogs, and was fine. Tonight, we wanted to introduce her to my wife’s sister’s Great Dane. He is bigger than her, but not aggressive in any way. We made the mistake of trying to introduce them at our home instead of neutral ground. Our dog was instantly aggressive, growling, barking, baring teeth, while the poor Great Dane was just scared. There was a fence in between them, so no physical damage was done. I realized afterward that our mistake was trying to bring another dog on to our property. My question is, if we try to reintroduce these dogs again on neutral territory, will they remember this first interaction, and will that affect their second meeting? Also, how long should we wait before trying again? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!
