Is Rover.com making Rate Adjustments now??

I was updating some info in my profile and noticed something about Rate Adjustment on the Services and Rates tab. It has a check box and says "I'd prefer not to have my rates adjusted by Rover. I understand that by doing so, I may make less for my services than similarly situated sitters in my area."

I don't recall seeing this before. What's it about?

I just started this summer, a couple of months ago, and it was there at that time. So if it is new then you know it has been then there at least a couple of months. I thought it was a little strange that they would set or adjust a rate. Maybe to stay competitive.

I also think I read somewhere that during a holiday they will automatically adjust your holiday rate too. For example, if your holiday rate is $35/night they might adjust it to $38/night without you doing anything. So if you have that box checked they will not do this for you. Thats just an example and random numbers, I don't really know how they determine what the adjusted rate would be. That is my understanding of it at least!

Yes, they are adjusting your rates based on the average rate, or what they have determined is "fair market price" in your area. If you check the box, however, they will not adjust your rates at all.

The holiday rate is a separate feature - if you have a holiday rate set, your prices will automatically adjust during the designated holiday periods.

See originally I thought that it was just Rover being able to switch back and forth from my normal rate to my holiday rate but recently I had a repeat client book with me that just had stayed the same amount of days with me 3 days ago and it originally sent the request at $35 rather than my original $38 rate for extended stays. Are they also adjusting rates to average you out with other sitters?

I believe this has to do with the holiday rate -- for example, over the 4th of July holiday, Rover automatically altered my rate for a stay that was booked to my holiday rate ($30/night) for both dogs, instead of charging my normal rate of $25/night. Otherwise, the owners would have been charged the normal rate unless I had adjusted it myself. Hope this helps.

I guess we should all double check the rate to make sure it is what we expect before booking just to be sure. :)

I believe you can allow rover to adjust it depending on the average rate around your area, this can help attract more clients. That's what I understood when I first found out about it.
