Getting two dogs to live with each other with dfferent engery levels. Help?

I have a 7 year old (52lbs) and and 18 month old (110lbs). They know each other well both live a a different family member. We are combining households so they will now love with each other. The problem is the puppy is very large and very hyper and I dont want my other dog to get hurt during play time they usually only play with each other 2x a week for about 2 hrs and then separated by a baby gate for the rest of the day. How long do you think it will take for them to get use to living with each other? They both get their separate attention for their engery levels i.e. long walks, beach/pool time, one-to-one attention.

When the dogs come to live together it will take time for the new environment kicks in for both the dogs, in other words, what I'm saying is the dogs will develop a new pattern. You may have to continue with the gating situation to keep the house calm. Best of luck

Let the older dog set the pace. Many dogs love playing with other dogs. I have a golden that's seven years older than my collie puppy and she has waayyy more energy than he does. When the older dog is done playing, give them a space where playtime is over and they don't have to worry about the younger dog jumping them. After that, it's time for someone else to step in to play with the puppy until both are tired.
