My dog is urinating and pooping in his kennel. How can I resolve this situation?
My dog was a stray, until I decided to keep him. I am working on kennel training him, but I am having issues. When I am gone for like an hour or two I come back to a kennel that is urinated and filled with poop. He uses his kennel as a safe place when I am around. I took out the blankets temporary for this situation since I got tired of cleaning it everyday. I put in special treats, have water out for him, and put in his toys. I do not know what else to do. I only had him for a month and he's only 5 months old. He's been to the vet, and he is healthy. He got his shots as well.
At 5 months, he should have developed all the muscles necessary to "hold it." To start, I would keep a potty journal, including what times he goes to the bathroom, and record whether he peed or pooped. Keep track of feeding, water, amount given, what times, then you'll know where to alter things.
Take him to the vet as soon as possible and get a professional inside about your dog health.
