What if my dog doesnt like other dogs?

My dog is extremely affectionate to people however she is hot & cold around other dogs especially when on a leash. What do I do? How do I find a dog sitter?

I would suggest searching for an in-home sitter to ensure that the sitter does not encounter any issues with your dog being around other dogs for their safety, since they will be in your home. Alerting them to make them aware of your dog's behavior around others, espeically on a leash as you mentioned, is also good, that way incase they are out on walks, your sitter will know to try to avoid any other dogs that may be out as well.

Good luck!

You can try finding a sitter who only sits one dog at a time and who does not have a dog of their own. This may be difficult, but it is possible. And even if you cannot find a sitter who does not have a dog, you should be able to tell if your dog and their dog get along during the meet and greet. So, if they only sit for one dog at a time, you'll at least know that your dog and their dog will be fine together and you won't have to worry about other owners' dogs being around.

I list in my profile that I only sit one dog at a time and that I don't have any dogs. I have had several clients tell me that they were looking for an in-home sitter where their dog would be the only dog. It may take a little searching, but we are out there! When you first contact a potential sitter, mention the fact that your dog doesn't behave well around other dogs. They may come back with a solution or just say they aren't a good match.

My one dog is the same way. I often have to carry her when around other dogs. I have tried training and therapy but I don't foresee her ever warming up to playing friendly with other dogs. I always hire a sitter on Rover that is willing to come stay at my house to watch my dogs overnight. I've never had a problem finding someone to come to my house for overnight sitting.

Thanks I'm weary about people staying at my house. How did you get comfortable?
