Do I need a business license in NJ?

I am new to this site but now an active sitter, trying to learn all I can and make sure I am doing the right things. Things like liability insurance and business licenses make it seem very intimidating. I have no income as a stay at home parent, just trying to find a way to help out a little. Not looking to go broke with all these expenses before earning any income. I only expect to deal with one client at a time and up to 2 dogs plus my dog at one time. What do I need for this?

Licensing requirements are set by your city, not the state. You should be able to find the information online at your city government's site in the area of business licenses.

I'm not sure about NJ, but a quick google search should be able to get you the answers you need.

ClerkBase has a lot of NJ cities available: http://clerkshq.com/

For my city, the pet kennel licensing portion was found under -- Revised General Ordinances ---- Chapter V Animals ------ 5-2 Kennel, Pet Shop and Pound

My city charges $10 annually for accommodating 10 or fewer dogs.
