How can I confront an owner about how she treats her dogs in front of me?

How can I confront this owner who beats her pitbull right in front of me? I had her two pitbulls for doggy day care and they were just great. But when it came time to pick up, one of them whined and she started beating him with a belt.. and Im honestly not comfortable seeing that and being asked to do that. I am unhappy that my child had to witness that, where she knows that you treat animals with feelings and you dont hit an animal for no reason.. Im uncomfortable watching these dogs and conducting business with her. This person doesn’t see abuse she sees it as discipline and sees nothing wrong with her actions.

Call Rover Customer Support to document the incident. They probably won't do anything, but it is good to get it on record. Do not confront the customer. Just report it to your local humane or anti-cruelty society which will investigate the situation.

That is SICK.

If you can have a conversation, I would try to talk to her. Explain that hitting a dog is unacceptable. Recommend training for the owner instead of ruling by fear they need to learn proper training techniques. When something like that happens just say, "Please stop that now" and then try to address it in a calm yet assertive manner. If you can make people understand why it is wrong to hit a dog, it is one step in the right direction.

If you need to end the client relationship just be honest. I would report it too. Let me know if I can help you.

I had one incident of real neglect/abuse (coincidentally also a pit bull, poor dogs ) and I called the local Animal Control to go talk to her. I spent a lot of extra time working with her animals and also helping her with positive training methods, but I also felt based on her attitude she needed a follow up after that to check on their welfare. Ultimately, the woman gave up one of her dogs as she realized she can't handle it without abusing it.

I am sorry but you mean that you just stool there and let her beat her dog in front of you and your child.... and you did nothing to stop it ?!?!? Because you were afraid of a bad review??? I do not even see how that is possible. Did she remove the belt that she was wearing? Did she pull a belt out of her purse? WHY DID YOU NOT CALL THE POLICE?

I would NEVER allowed ANYONE to pick up a belt and start "beat their dog with it". I would not have let her taken her dog after seeing that. I would of turned around and called the police. Animal Cruelty is illegal in any state. Would you have let a person "Beat" their child in front of you, than just turn around and say "Bye have a good day?!?!" How dare you stand there and let her beat her dog with a belt in front of you and your main concern is not the well-being of her dogs but about a "negative review"!!

I don't care what the circumstance is, I would never allow an animal to be beaten in front of me!!!!!!

I don’t think you understood what I was asking; idc if she leaves me a bad review she can for all I care. I do not want her around. I 100 percent not one for abuse in any sort of way. “She called it discipline” I call it abuse. I’ve already made my complains to the resources, and have discontinued.

It wasn’t on my property it was off and when I said something about it she brushed it off and defended her actions. Even if I tried to go after her she could have tried to go after me for assault and while my child was there, while I was alone with no backup.

I don't see where she got that you were concerned about a review. That isn't anywhere in your post. I would definitely say something to the woman before reporting her (as you did); If she wasn't open to changing, then yes report her. What an awful experience. You did what you could at the time.

Lea, the original post that Megan wrote specifically said she was concern with a negative review (Which is exactly what got me so worked up.) She has since switched her post removing her last statement about a negative review and adding the last two lines of her post. -Erica

You should tell her that what she's doing is illegal and could get her arrested for animal abuse.

Rover doesn’t care about that unless it’s a liability that can cause payment of damages. Don’t say anything to the crazy client, keep in contact and all smiles, have a friend turn them in to the city animal services or police depending where you live. Folks like that may seek retaliation- be safe!
