How do I get my dog to eat dry dog food?

When my dog was sick, the vet suggested I feed her broth, rice and ground chicken. I did. Now I can't get her to eat dry dog food anymore. She never really ate much dry dog food to begin with...she liked wet dogfood. i want to get her used to dry...can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Try mixing a little broth on her dry food. Gradually decrease the broth. Also, try switching her dry food. Sometimes dogs get tired of a particular flavor or brand.

I agree with Tammy, easing back 50/50 may help.... but then again, if your dog won't eat the food you give her, she will get hungry, so frankly making that her only option will clear that problem up.

You can always try to use a freeze dried meat supplement! Breaking up the freeze dried meats (Stella & Chewy's Meal Mixers or Stewart's) should help entice her to eat the dry food a little more! I definitely recommend breaking them up because if just added to the food, most dogs will pick them out!

Hi Paula! I have found that mixing those items she really wants to eat (rice, broth, ground chicken) into the dry food is a great fix for this issue. Start out with 80-90% of the rice, broth, or chicken, and only 10-20% dry food, then slowly increase the amount of dry food until she is only eating the dry food. I am not sure what brand you use, but there are some really great natural brands, such as Wellness, that have both wet and dry food with chicken and rice as the main ingredients. You might be able to start mixing in wet food instead of dry, then mix in the dry food of the same flavor until she is, again, just eating the dry. Hope this helps and good luck!
