Clients ask if you are available then you don't hear from them again?

This happened a number of times already, I'd get a request from a client, who typically ask if I am available for boarding, I'd then reply with a standard template, as follow:

"Hi owners name, thank you for inquiry. My schedule is open for the duration. I had a look at *dogs name"'s description, and looks like she will be a good fit. How would you like to set up a meet and greet some time soon before we confirm the booking?"

Then, I don't hear from them again. Am I doing something wrong? Does this happen to everyone? Do people don't have the decency to at least let me know they have found someone else?

Whats everyones experience on this? My biggest problem is that since I only take 1 dog at a time, I won't show up in the search as available while I am waiting to hear from the client like this.

Thanks, Felix

I am kind of mad about this last one, this client asked if I was available, I replied within a couple of minutes. if they have no intention of booking, why would they ask in the first place?

Rover recommends to owners that they contact several sitters when they create their first booking request, so it is likely you weren't their first sitter choice but one of the alternates. Not hearing back from potential clients is very typical since it happens all the time. Don't get discouraged as this is all part of being a sitter - best of luck to you

That's good to know Walt, wish Rover would do more for the sitters.

Since you only take one client at a time, I would respond to their request with your standard message, then archive the message to open your calendar back up again. Clients don't see when we archive, and if they do respond you can un-archive a request at any time and continue the conversation.

I typically respond to new queries within 30 minutes. I will leave the message in my inbox for 12-24 hours (depending on when it is sent) and if no response, I'll send one more follow up like "Hi owner, just checking if you still need someone to watch dog for these dates. Please let me know and we can schedule a meet and greet!" then archive immediately.

As Walt said, owners are encouraged by Rover to contact multiple sitters when booking, so it may be that you were one of the 'extras' they contacted and their first choice responded. Try not to take it personally!
