I cannot get this dog to walk with me. Any suggestions?

I am currently walking this one dog ( a black lab mix). He is 1yr 6 mo old. When we get to a couple blocks beyond the house, He looks back and decides to go back home. I try and stand my ground and slowly encourage him to continue walking. I use treats to do this as well. It has been tough for him to keep walking without wanting to turn back around. He is very happy playing in the yard of the house, but when it comes to going out for a walk, it is difficult. It is also difficult to get him back in the house after playing in the yard. Do any of you have a similar situation? Any feedback would be great. Thank you!

I have only had this happen a couple times. What I do? I start to slowly jog. With a real nice tone I'll call the pup and say, "Come on Rover let's go!". As we change pace the dog quickly forgets and concentrates on the jog. I slow down after we get past the point that they stopped.

I would talk to the owner and see they encounter this problem also? They may know what works best for their dog.

Things you can try is letting the dog lead you. Walk the dog where he wants to walk (granted within reason) =D You can also try running with him or if he likes toys take a squeaking toy with you. (Don't Let him see the toy) and when he stops you can than hopefully get his attention with the toy and he will continue to walk.

Good Luck!
