What do you do with your dog when you have a lot of friends over for the holidays?

I'm hosting a holiday party at my house this weekend and I'm wondering what I should to do make sure my frenchie is comfortable and at ease around so many people. She generally does well with people, but any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks!

When I have a lot of guests, or someone doing work on the house, I separate my dogs into a quiet room in the furthest part of the house from the action, turn on the radio quietly, and give them a busy bone to work on (or frozen filled kongs.)

Hope this helps!

My dog is real good with guests but a little pushy with the kids, so we gate him in the dining room.

He gets to stay part of the action but I don't have to worry about children getting him riled up all bonkers and him knocking them over.

Hi Jessica,

This may sound weird, but when I need my dog out of the way, I actually put him in the back of my pickup! He loves to hang out in there. If it's very cold I don't do this, but it's great 3/4 of the year. My truck top has lots of windows that open with screen mesh, and is light colored, so it doesn't get too hot in the summer. A bed, water, and a bone to chew are all he needs to happily hang out in "his" truck for a few hours while the house is busy!

My two usually hang out with the guests - one is very friendly and loves the attention, and the other is more reserved and keeps out of the way. I can kennel them, which they don't mind, but I only do that if the party guests can't refrain from interacting with my shy dog. She's not much for being touched, and generally our guests are very respectful of that, but I'll put her in the dog cave and relax if anyone is pushing her boundaries. Both the dogs feel very safe in the kennel.
