How can I keep from having my dog become injured when his cord which is attached to a fixed spot reaches it's furthest point?

A better method to exercising your dog is to take it for a walk, and you also get the benefit of walking

This is actually a really bad idea. I had a client how had her dog tethered on a rope and there was a spiral stake into the ground. It was designed to tether dogs to. The owner followed the instructions, make sure that the stake was in the ground all the way. Well after several times of the dog running to the end of his rope back and forth, the stake flew out from the ground and ended up hitting the dog on his lower part of his back. Luckily the dog did not break any bones but it did bruise his back pretty good. Ouch!! Can you imagine how much that must of hurt?
