is carpet shampooer tax deductable?

So many a dog has peed, pooed, and vomited on my rug and carpet. I've never felt the need to get a carpet shampooer till now, but is it tax deductable if Rover isn't my full-time job?

While I completely agree "consult your tax advisor" is the correct answer, I think most new Rover sitters don't make enough money to hire one, which is why they came here to ask. I imagine this forum is for people who's been there and done that to share their experience. Or maybe links to government publications could help as well.

You should always consult your tax advisor concerning income and any expense deductions. While you MAY be able to deduct the cleaning equipment, if it can also be used around the home to clean other areas the deduction may be disallowed if you are audited.

yes, a good way to look at it is any supplies that you buy because of a pet in your care or for a pet in your care can be deducted. (as long as its not your own pet.) Even though it is not your full time job it is still income that you are claiming so it still counts as expenses.

Good Luck!
