Great way to get an idea of if your dog is at an appropriate weight is by determining their BCS ( Body Condition Score) this can be done by evaluating the excess fat and flesh over the back, tail-head and ribs. An ideal body condition score is around 4-5

You can determine whether your dog is too skinny by looking at it from both the top and the side. Here is a simple chart to show you what it looks like for a dog to be emaciated (starving/skin and bones), thin (on the skinny side), ideal (perfect weight), heavy (a bit on the chunky side), and grossly obese (way too heavy). If you're still unsure about if your dog is too skinny, you could take your dog to the vet and get their professional opinion.
