Does my dog need flea and heartworm meds if he only goes outside to potty?

Most vets recommend it, no matter where you live--Your dog may only go outside for short periods, but fleas/parasites like mosquitoes can latch on to you, your clothes, or just fly in through the door, and you can actually transfer them to your pet, just by walking inside your home!

Here in south Florida where we deal with mosquitoes year round, veterinarians say: YES ! And that way he is also protected against fleas which are the vector for intestinal parasites.

When we lived in NJ, our vet said it was fine to discontinue the heartworm preventative med during the winter months and just used a flea treatment.
