Why do dogs pant?

There are several reasons why dogs pant. One reason is to keep their body cool and circulate air through their bodies. Dogs don't sweat like we do but they do sweat through their paw pads. Another reason is much more serious. If they consumed something that is poisonous to them, heat stroke and other illnesses. If you see your dog panting faster/heavier than normal you should contact your veterinarian.
