Can dogs catch the flu from an owner?

One of my guest pups woke up with diarrhea and vomiting. I have him in the bedroom away from the other dogs. Owner is an airline attendant and was sick last week. She felt much better yesterday and booked to drop him off. Since he is a weekly repeat and the owner said she felt fine, I accepted the pup. The pup was fine last night.

I have other guest dogs and they were all together in the bedroom last night. Should I contact rover and also let the other owners know?

No. It is highly unlikely the dog has contracted an illness from its owner. However, it is possible the sick dog is contagious. Keep the dog separated from other animals and follow strict hygiene (hand washing, etc). I would double check the dog's vitals and consult the owner and their veterinarian

Thanks! I kept the pup confined with only diluted organic chicken broth for the day. He was back to normal by evening. Owner is going to talk to vet., thinks he has a sensitive tummy as he goes thru that sometimes. Just not in my care.

Next time this happens, rice cooked in chicken broth will help with both nausea and diarrhea

There have been no documented cases of dogs catching the flu from humans http://www.vetstreet.com/our-pet-expe...

Nope! The human flu cannot be transmitted to canines and vice versa. Types of worms and fleas however can be transmitted!
