Hosts, has Rover asked any of you to submit a consumer report as a background check and froze your account until they get it?

Customer support says this a recent change in the Terms of Service. I haven't seen any notices emailed out but they have frozen my account. I'm unable to do new bookings.

I believe you are actually referring to the background check. After Rover acquired DogVacay, all sitters were required to have a background check performed. When I joined Rover it wasn't a requirement but I had to agree to it in order to stay on the site. I received an email about it a few months ago and you had until a certain date, after which they would freeze your account.

You don't have to submit anything, just complete the background check performed by Checkr/

Thanks for answering. I'm not a sitter and I never go into a customer's home. Also, I feel forcing people for their credit report is just wrong. Background checks can be done without using a social security number. How will they protect my information from identity theft? Look at Experian.

I am from Canada so maybe it is different but I did my background check using my passport so never gave them my social insurance number which is the Canadian equivalent to social security number. They do not check your credit report but your rather your criminal background, two very different things

This actually stopped me from finishing my profile. I don't understand why Rover is the third party here involved. I don't mind doing background check through legit website but entering every single information such as: Name, address, credit card number and your SS number, that is a huge red flag for me. Rover will know everything about you and how do you know they won't sell your info? Not even your bank will ask for your full SS number when you call in - because you don't GIVE anybody your SS #. Period. I wonder how many sitters ( on this website) have became the victims of identity theft so far. I do not trust this website to provide my full info. They should not be asking about it. But I bet many sitters won't even think twice about it !!!! Be careful !!! I wonder how long my post will be allowed to stay here on Rover website :)

Rover is NOT involved. The background check is performed by CheckR and you give your information directly to CheckR, not to Rover. Any legit background check requires your SSN.

CheckR is a very well known background check company. Why are you so paranoid?

I am not paranoid - im being careful. If you read my comment carefully, I said I didn't mind doing background check through legit company. Still you have to enter your cc number and info through Rover website. Why? Do you see what I mean? Rover keeps every single info you've entered.

It's been several years, but when I had to submit the information, it was on/through the CheckR website.

I just became a sitter and the background check is done by checker. I never had to enter a cc number anywhere! You can choose the basic background check and it's free so what is it asking you to enter a card for?
