Help calculating rate for multiple pet/animal overnight stay?

I have been providing in house pet sitting with DV & Rover for the past 3 months. My overnight rate to stay in the client's home is $50/night for up to 2 dogs. I have received a request for an overnight stay for 10 days at a home that has 2 dogs (3 yr old, 11 month old), 1 cat + 2 miniature horses. The meet & greet is scheduled for a week from now.

I'm looking for input on what would be a fair and reasonable rate to charge.

I charge something similar for two dogs (approx $40). But then, I charge $10 for each cat. They're pretty low maintenance, and generally don't need a ton of work. Since I live in an urban area, I've never gotten a request for a miniature horse. But I would imagine they require a little more work than a cat. I would ask at the meet and greet (or before if you want to nail down a price beforehand) what kind of care the mini horses take. If it seems like its' going to be as much work as a dog...then charge dog rates. It's likely, anytime a client has five animals, that the booking is going to be costly. I would try to give a ballpark of the cost before you arrive at the meet and greet, to ensure that they aren't going to back out because of prices after you've already spent your time at the meet and greet.

Thank you, that was helpful. I have a ballpark in mind, which I can adjust depending on the work required re the mini horses (i.e. exercise, stall clean out, etc).

Might need to add a grooming fee also, esp if you'll have to brush down the horses each day.

I'd call around to stables to find out what they charge to board a horse because it actually seems like more work than taking care of a dog.
