Why does it charge per dog per night for house-sitting?

I'm trying to book a house sitter. I do have 3 dogs but it seems pretty outrageous to charge me per dog to stay at my house, right? Is there any way to change that?

Comments

Not that outrageous. If you had three kids you would pay a babysitter more than if you had one kid (I would hope). Each dog still requires attention. If you put the dogs in a kennel you would be paying per dog too, at least with this service you get the value add on of a house sitter.

Since you are a sitter, you know that each sitter prices their services independently.

Each animal takes some effort to care for them individually and properly - feeding, walking, etc - regardless of the location. So a charge for additional animals is not unreasonable.

There is a way for the sitter to modify the charge talk it over with them first.

Your only recourse is to look for a sitter that either doesn't charge for additional animals or only does for a nominal amount. Look through all the sitters in your area. Perhaps you will find one.

Amanda, I agree with you. I have been looking at Rover for two dogs. I would expect to pay more, but not twice as much. The woman I was looking at did not list any price for a second dog. The charge for one dog was $20 as listed, and somehow the price for the second one was $25 even though there was nothing in her pricing to indicate that would be the case. I communicated with the woman via the Rover site and she just said that she let Rover figure it out and she accepted whatever popped up.
