Do dog owners normally provide food for their pets or is it expected from a sitter?

The owners are boarding two dogs at my house for 2 weeks.

I believe the owner should provide the food for their dogs, for multiple reasons. Unless you charge extra for cover food costs, the owner should always provide food for their own pets. Also, you wouldn't want to switch what the dogs eat on them, they could get sick eating a different kind of food, or they may have allergies to certain things. I would contact the owners and let them know to provide you with enough food for their dogs for the duration of their stay.

Hi Evelina! The owners should provide their own food, treats, supplements, etc. I would suggest you to have this conversation with them, before assuming they know this so you don't find yourself in a difficult situation. Let them know you would like them to provide you with whatever makes their Pet comfortable and familiar with. From maybe getting their favorite toys, blanket, bowls, etc. Remember, the more familiar their environment and routine is, the better they will do through their stay. That way, you don't struggle with them having anxiety or depression while their owners go away, specially during extended periods (some dogs will even eat less because they get stressed in new homes, even when you are as loving and caring as you can be). Make sure they provide you with ENOUGH food so you don't run out of it within a week and then find yourself having to pay out of pocket for their expenses. (Unless you agree with it!). You can always have some treats for them too, but make sure you ask their owners if you can give them your treats since some Parents can be particular about it, they may like giving their pets organic products, or they are allergic to certain ingredients, or they have a special diet and you don't want to be responsible for them having a soft stool or worse!

I have learned that new Dog parents sometimes don't realize they should provide you with all this, or they might be to busy, or distracted to consider it. It is good and will speak highly of you if you can help them remember. Hope my experience helps you and good luck!

Owners provide the food. Only once in a while that they don't, forget, or it's a last minute booking.

Owners should provide food. Switching a dogs food suddenly can cause digestive issues. I would only feed a different food in an emergency. You should know they are running out and be able to plan ahead to switch at a Natural pace or get more and have the owner pay for it.
