Just like with humans, snoring in dogs generally occurs when air movement is restricted in the nasal passageways or throat. Some of what can cause dogs to snore may simply be that they like to sleep on their back, so their tongue ends up partially blocking some of the air movement in their passageways.

Ditto for the nasal passage blockage. Sometimes it's the anatomy of the breed, or where the tongue falls. It could also be allergies. My dog gets a runny/stuffy nose and he always snores more when his allergies are flaring up. Talk to your vet about allergy meds if it's a concern

Occurred to mostly short snout breeds and older dogs. Mine is a Boston Terrier and she can snore super loud at times.
