Dogs pant when they are overheated. Even obseity can cause a dog to pant a lot. Or stress and anexity can cause panting. But if your dog has no reason to pant it may be a sign that your dog is in pain. Excessive panting is a sign he may have Cushings disease, disease in the heart and lungs or anemia. You may want to take him to the vet just in case.
