Your dog might also be bored. Try to give him some alternatives. Toys, games etc. Keep him occupied. If he has high energy, take him for walks a couple of times a day.

Some simple preventive ways to address this is by engaging him and playing with him. This would basically distract him as he does other things.
Some dogs, in addition to the circles, do scratching. And circling…..and scratching, and circling and turning around. It goes on forever. But don’t get a bed made with thin material or you will have a mess.
