I have a client with 4month old golden retriever that are going away for a couple of days and are just requesting drops ins...is that safe to leave a puppy alone for only drop in?

I don't do overnights or boarding but i can offer for this special puppy..thoughts? Has anyone done just drop ins with a puppy...i am pretty sure he is crate trained.

I would definitely suggest they find someone to housesit or in home board. Puppies need a lot of attention and consistency.

What about the pup during the night? The best rule of thumb is an Hour for every month old they are. Little one won't make it through the night. I would suggest to them they board the baby.

I would not do it. Puppies not only need potty breaks but they need socialization, training, exercise and such. This is the perfect scenario for so many things to go wrong, every time a puppy does his business in the wrong place, that is reinforced and too much risk of this happening, being left alone that much can make him panic and hurt himself, the puppy could really dislike the crate if he does get too anxious, etc.

I would rarely accept to do this even with a full grown dog.

How many drop-ins per day did they request? I would do three at a very minimum, but preferably four (early morning, noon-ish, dinner time, and bedtime). You could also offer to do one or two longer visits for a small additional fee so that he has extra time with you. I would imagine there may be some accident clean-up involved, but otherwise I think that he would be fine depending on how many visits they want you to make, especially if it is only for a short trip.
