There is a likelihood of an ear infection. A vet can prescribe the medication your dog needs to resolve this.

A dog will shake his ears after a bath or swimming. If your dog is shaking his ears often it could be for a few different reasons. 1. He has something lodged in his ear 2. He has an excessive amount of ear wax 3. Ear infection 4. Allergies 5. Polyps in the ear canal Either way it would probably be best to take him to the vet if the problem continues.

Often times if a dog is shaking their head continually it is most likely an ear infection, it could also very well be something such as a cheat grass awn. At the clinic I work at we often see dogs with cheat in their ears and this can lead to other issues such as an ear infection or a pierced drum. It is best to seek veterinary attention.

After working at a veterinary hospital, the most common cause of head shaking are ear mites. You could tell by looking at your dog's inner ear and finding reddish brownish crust. Most forms of ear mites are bacterial, so be sure to ask your veterinarian for a gel or liquid ear mite solution. They can come in the form of drops, gel, or cream. You can also clean your dog's ears to prevent any further infections or buildup.
