Why does my dog lick himself so much?

He could just be grooming himself which they do naturally .
Some licking is natural part of grooming. Excessive licking may be due to allergies, dry skin, boredom, nervousness, anxiousness, hunger, obsessive-compulsive behavior, pain, parasites, hormonal imbalance.
