I just noticed that my dog has a slight rash on her belly. Should I worry about this? Not sure if it's an allergic reaction or if it's normal and will take care of itself. What should I do?
When dogs lie down, their stomachs are in contact with whatever surface they're on -- so they're exposed to household chemicals, outdoor irritants or insect bites, all of which can lead to rashes. Most rashes are harmless and can be treated with topical ointments, but some skin irritations signify serious conditions. If your dog scratches at a rash, have him evaluated by a vet.
You definitely have a right to worry about it. I recommend going into your vet and they will grab a sample to look under the microscope and let you know within minutes whether it's infected or what is going on.
