Your pooch is excited and happy when you come home. He wants to play and picks toys that he like to play with trying to get you excited to play with him. Another reason is that dogs want us to be pleased with them and he choosing items that you have given him.

Yes, your dog is looking for play time with you. Bringing you their toy is their way of saying, "I'm so happy you are here. Let's play catch." Or "Let's play tug of war." There are times with some dogs who are overly excited who accidentally urinated upon your arrival as a puppy who will now grab a toy and chew on that or even carry it around while "talking" when they see you walk in so they no longer have an accident in the home. They have redirected their focus on the toy.
