What is the stubbornest breed of dogs?

asked 2014-09-24 12:41:37 -0500

I have 4 chihuahuas in my pack that are very 'opinionated' for sure. Recommend a companion breed?

A female Husky is the smartest, and most stubborn dog you could ever own.

I think it depends on the dog itself, don't think any particular breed is more stubborn than the other. I do agree, though that small dogs have big attitudes. lol ;)

Agreed! love big dogs! But the smaller ones always seem to have "issues, drama, or attitude" haha! It's so great to see all their personalities!

I would say the most stubborn breeds of dogs come from the Bully Breed. My top picks would be Mastiffs, French Bulldogs, and Bulldogs. So cute, but SO stubborn.

No dog is 'stubborn' - if they seem that way then its because they either don't understand what you want from them or the reward for displaying the desired behavior isn't valuable enough.

I have a border collie mix who probably appears to be very 'stubborn' but she's really just very smart and working on new tricks or behaviors just requires high value treats :) She also has a high prey drive so getting her to ignore a passing squirrel is no easy task!

I don't think there's a specific breed I honestly think its all on how they grew up and the discipline they had as a puppy.. a dog that had little rules is going to be more stubborn then a dog that wasn't allowed on the couch or allowed to eat table scraps. If you get what I mean. (:

Shiba Inus are very stubborn and are not easily trained, though they are so cute!

I had Airedale terriers growing up. They were definitely the most stubborn dogs I've ever had.

I found huskies, shiba inu, and bully breeds to be quite the stubborn dogs. German Shepherds in some situations can be hard-headed too, especially when riled up by something. It usually depends on the dog and its upbringing though. Many people say pitties are stubborn, but if the owner isn't a pushover, the dog tends to be pretty easy to train.

Border collies and the like are the easiest and most eager to train, I've noticed.
