Why does my dog have bad breath suddenly?

asked 2017-03-13 01:18:31 -0500

My dog gave me a big kiss today and I noticed that he has suddenly developed bad breath. What could be the reason for this? His diet hasn't changed. How do I fix this??

It sounds like you need to talk to his vet. If he doesn't need dental care, then something could be wrong in his GI tract or organs. A sudden change could warn you of diabetes, kidney or liver issues.

There are many reasons why dogs have bad breath: They may have just eaten something that smelled bad; they may have an anal gland impaction and have been licking themselves (a good reason to not let your dog or dogs kiss you); or they may have a medical problem like kidney disease or, more commonly, dental disease.
