My Staff gives me a wash every morning after we’ve been out for a walk? I find it very calming myself. He often licks people’s legs seems to do That to annoy whoever it is if they are ignoring him. He’s a unit but the most loving dog I know. He’s my best friend always looking for his next mischief

Dogs lick sometimes because they love you! Other times, maybe you've got something on your skin they like. Some dogs like salty sweat after a workout! Other dogs are a little bit neurotic and do a repetitive motion to soothe themselves.

This is the most common reason that domestic dogs lick and tends to be the kind of licking most pet parents want to change. Licking for affection causes your dog to release pleasurable endorphins that calm and comfort them, but sometimes it can just get to be too much for people.

They do it for a variety of reasons, but mainly it is a grooming instinct that they show out of fondness to you. Occasionally, they also do it out of a salt craving or as part of a type of OCD and it helps to calm/soothe them. Regardless of why they do it, enjoy the fact that they love you and are comfortable enough with you to show you affection.

Dogs can also lick you as a grooming behavior if they are more dominant, others just do it to show affection.
