Why does my dog sleep at my feet?

Hi there. It's probably because of a few things: 1. They want to protect you 2. They want to be comforted 3. They're manifesting their territory 4. They may be cold 5. It's their nature to do so when they're with their alpha. Here's an article for more info: https://goldenretrieverlove.com/why-does-%3C/p%3E (https://goldenretrieverlove.com/why-does-)

It's basically why they may follow you to the bathroom too. They want to be close by so they know if you leave.

When a dog sleeps at your feet he acknowledges that you are the leader of the pack.

Dominance theory was debunked long ago. Your dog is simply comfortable in that spot.

My dog sleeps at my feet because she is "marking" that I am her human and that she is protecting me, as well as I am protecting her as she sleeps.

A dog who sleeps at your foot is yielding to you as the leader of the pack. When your dog takes over the bed, as many do, he is challenging your leadership of the pack. That is when you must exert your dominance. Remember, dogs are pack animals and every dog has his place in the pack, including where to sleep.
