Why does my dog have the hiccups?

Dog hiccups are normally harmless and rarely serious. They are caused by spasms of the diaphragm that are triggered by excitement, eating too fast, irritants or stress. Dog hiccups are so common some veterinarians think that they are “growing pains".
Dogs usually get them from the air they swallow when they eat or drink too fast, but stress, fatigue and excitement can also be a cause.
Hiccups are seen in dogs just as we experience them as people. They are caused my spasms of the diaphragm. The is caused from the intake of too air. In dogs this is most commonly seen when they eat or drink too quickly. Hiccups usually resolve fairly quickly on their own.
Same as humans; swallowing lots of air while eating.
He/ she may be eating too fast. Try placing a tennis ball in their bowl to slow them down during meals.
For the same reason as we do, eating too fast, gulping air.
