There are a few explanations. Your dog may be showing signs of submission. They will pee when they are submitting to their owner or another figure that they see as dominant. If this is the case they should not be reprimanded because it could reinforce the behavior. If ignored they usually grow out of it. Also a UTI could be the culprit. Maybe they have to go frequently and cannot hold it between outside time. Another reason could be a weak bladder. Are you letting the dog out often enough. When they are forced to hold it for long periods of time their bladder can weaken.

Less common reasons could be due to neurological conditions. If your dog is experiencing other symptoms you may want to bring them to the Vet.

There are many different reasons that a dog could be leaking urine. They could be suffering a UTI, have urinary incontinence, or be afraid. Another cause of this could be a build up of struvite crystals in the dogs urine which could later lead to the formation of kidney stones!

At any rate, you should check in with your vet. Most of these are easily treatable but can become more serious the longer you wait to determine the source of the problem.

He might have urinary incontinence, which is especially common in older dogs. Dogs also will urinate when they are afraid- this is submissive urination and is common in younger dogs.

Urinary incontinence is common amoungst older dogs. My chihuahua leaks due to his enlarged prostate. This may also be a cause for leaks.

In younger dogs a UTI may also be the case.

It might indicate a urinary tract infection if it is something that is going on for a while the vet should take an ultrasound of the bladder area and make sure everything is ok..

It depends on age range and is definitely a topic to bring up with your dogs vet as several medical issues can cause this symptom.

Your vet can give you the real answer! But my dog had kidney stones when that happened, and he has never peed in the house except that day.
