When dogs grind his or her teeth, it is called bruxism. There are a number of reasons as to why your dog may do it, but some include pain in the mouth, abnormalities of the jaw, or even stomach pain. Believe it or not, dogs can experience anxiety/stress causing some to grind their teeth.

Without seeing your dog, or knowing his breed, this is a hard question to answer. Most times, dogs grind their teeth to ease the pain caused by crooked jaws/teeth. Or, like humans, dogs can also do so out of stress.
