Why won't my dog eat?

Just like people, dogs have appetites. Some days they just don't feel like eating. However, if they skip 2 meals, a problem may be occurring. Start by making sure that they are still doing their business and the rest of the bodily functions, otherwise call the vet after the first meal missed

I have had a couple different experiences with my dogs not eating. Once it was because of stress. There was too much going g on. Another time it ended up I had to take him to the vet and he was not.feelinv well. A third time was because the food was bad.

I know as a sitter a lot of dogs in a new environment will need a day or so to adjust before they eat. It's something I expect from new guests. My regulars are used to my home by now so any signs of not eating I watch closely for. I call concierge if I need to or even reach pet parents for tips.

How long has your dog not been eating for? Is it only under certain circumstances like when you aren't home? My dog used to not eat when I would leave, so I would have whoever watched her add something delicious to her food, such as pumpkin or canned food, and she couldn't resist! Maybe she just doesn't like the food you are feeding her? Have you tried different brands? If he/she hasn't eaten in a while and you are home, I would definitely call the vet.

Sometimes my dog will skip a meal and then eat it later or just eat one meal for the day. But if they have skipped a couple days of meals I would definitely call the vet because he or she might not be feeling well. Also keep an eye on if the dog is drinking water. water is more important than if they are eating.

If your dog is ever showing a change in behavior or change in appetite, it is good to consult your veterinarian. But a day without food is not always a big concern.

There are several reasons why a dog may not want to eat, including illness, stress, or a change in their routine or environment. If your dog is not eating, it is important to monitor their behavior and contact a veterinarian if their appetite does not improve within 24 hours. Some solutions to help encourage your dog to eat include offering different types of food, adjusting feeding times, and reducing stress and anxiety. However, it is always best to consult with a veterinarian (https://cuttinbluefarms.com/) to determine the underlying cause of your dog's loss of appetite and ensure proper treatment.

Your dog not eating can be a sign of serious internal complications. When my dog stopped eating, we brought him to the vet after a couple of days and were informed that he had fatal liver cancer. Of course, your dog may just be sick, or nervous if he/she is in a new environment, but you should see a veterinarian anyway just in case.

Stress! A lot of pets do not eat when presented with a new circumstance. For most dogs missing a meal won't hurt. Discussing this with an owner is essential to prepare for the dogs stay.

When a dog won’t eat, it is referred to as anorexia. This is different from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder found in humans. Instead anorexia describes a complete loss of appetite in dogs. Because loss of appetite in dogs can indicate illness, it is important to seek veterinary care if you notice changes in your dog’s eating habits. It is especially important to respond promptly to a refusal to eat in dogs that usually eat well.
