Why does my dog sit under my chair?

Dogs will sit under your chair for safety. Most like a more enclosed setting. Sometimes they are waiting for crumbs to fall.

your dog probably just wants to be close to you because they care about you! (and if you're eating they probably want a little food too)

Dogs often like to be in a den-like setting while still being near their human. Your pup may consider under the chair his "den." Or he may be waiting for a few crumbs to fall. Service dogs are trained to sit under the table or under the chair of the human that they service to they are easy available to assist.

When we are at the table eating our dog and some pups hang around waiting for crumbs to drop on the floor. We are very careful not to drop crumbs. Some dogs feel comfortable, reassured and/or enjoy the pet owner - pet sitter companionship. Some pups have separation anxiety and needs to be close to the pet parent or pet sitter. I have had pet parents tell me their pup naps under the desk when they are on the computer. Some pups like to "cave" and be close to their pet parent.

It can be comforting to them, - it gives a sense of security and allows them to be close to you. As mentioned above my pup knows that I am a messy eater and will often await crumbs from that position!
