Why does my dog eat bar soap?

Hi, my dog has recently gotten into the habit of getting the bar of soap from the bathtub and chewing on it. I've tried to hide it but he always sniffs it out and I'm wondering if changing the fragrance will help. Or maybe it is just the soap that he likes? What can I do to stop this?

Hi, Shelly! A quick internet search suggested that dogs may eat soap in response to malnutrition or a vitamin deficiency. Perhaps reevaluate the food that he is currently eating and/or make a visit to have some blood work completed at his vet to check his values. Could you keep the bathroom door closed, put up a baby gate to the bathroom, or keep the soap somewhere out of reach, such as a medicine cabinet, so that he would not have access to it?
