Can I claim my dog on my taxes?

You can only claim your dog if they are a service pet, otherwise, no you cannot.

Your personal dog can not be claimed, however if you raise guide dogs or foster for a charity you can claim them.

Correct - as stated above, pets cannot be claimed as a dependent.

Not yet, but soon in the state of California you'll be able to calm up to $2,000 a year for Vet bills on your income tax!. It's the State's way of getting more people to adopt shelter pets. Hopefully other states will soon follow!

I also believe if you have some sort of service animal.

According to IRS Publication 502 (2016): "You can include in medical expenses the costs of buying, training, and maintaining a guide dog or other service animal to assist a visually impaired or hearing disabled person, or a person with other physical disabilities. [...]"
