Coverage for Sitters?

I am happy that Rover covers our Guests with Premium Protection Insurance but wish there was something we Sitters could opt into for ourselved while caring for our furry, fuzzy or scaly guests. I say this because I recently had my shoulder dislocated while walking a Rover pup and now I won't be able to work at my regular job for several weeks!
The dog saw something and took off and bolted so hard and fast that she took yanked my arm out. I'd pay $50/ a year, much like the other protection package Rover offers. To keep Rover safe, they can make it for Sitters who make at least $450/month with Rover. What do you all think?

I think about this often, but since we are independent contractors Rover has no incentive to provide us with any sort of insurance. If one of us gets picked off, they have many more waiting to pluck up our clients!

True. But, they wouldn't need to pay for it. They could charge us like the do the Protection package but 'strength in numbers' means a carrier would like cover us Rover sitters for a volume discount. I think it would be nice if they added it to the RoverGo program. We hive up 25% anyway

Dang, I just had to look up RoverGo! 25% - wow! I am going to start a new topic to ask for people's experiences.

Many sitters purchase independent insurance that provides liability coverage and fills in the blanks with the Rover insurance. This link gives you a comparison of a few insurance providers http://petsits.com/petsittinginsuranc...

You said you are unable to work because you were injured, only workman's comp insurance would cover lost wages and that type of coverage is very expensive, not many Rover sitter carry this.

Sorry you were injured and recover soon

No. This is not the only type of insurance. There is also professional disability insurance. Massage therapy organizations, asone example, offer it for about $100/ year or something like AFLAC. As a group, Rover could offer to cover us at a substantial savings, similar to our pet protection

Unfortunately I think Rover just doesn't care enough to bother

Thanks for the down vote

To offer us protection would essentially be them claiming us as employees since all employees pay in some way for insurances that would make them liable for anything that happened to dogs in a sitters care which is what they avoid by telling everyone they are just 3rd party intermediaries.

They are basically a more niche http://Care.com or Tripadvisor with similar features like "badges" and referral fees - etc. They don't want to be held liable for any problems or issues of course so that's why we're all contractors.

That is incorrect. You do not need to be an employee to be offered a group member discount. Much like I am not an employee of Costco, and yet still am eligible for member group discounts on particular savings on dental coverage, etc. I used to employee several people as the owner of a sm school

The insurance you are looking for is short term disability. I have purchased it from State Farm in the past and currently carry it through Aflac. Price varies widely due to age, income level, start date etc... Rover is still relatively new, heck they still haven't even worked out the bugs in their app as I'm sure you all well know:( I'm sure as they begin stabilize they will be able to turn some of their focus to quality items like group discount policies. I think Uber was around 10 years before they started offering it.
