How long can I leave my dog alone?

The answer to this question is very dependent on the dog. If they are a healthy puppy the safest rule to follow is they can be alone for as many hours as they are old. Meaning if they are 2 months old, do not leave them alone for more than 2 hours. I would also say they shouldn't be alone at any age more than 8 hours. When alone they should always be in a contained area where there is nothing they can chew or swallow. If the dog is older and/or has health issues then the amount of time they can be alone will depend on their specific needs.

Ideally no more than 4-6hrs. That allows for proper elimination and feeding/watering schedules. If it's to be longer than that often, well then it's time for you to call a Rover sitter!!!

I would try to leave my dog home alone as little as possible. Dogs are very dependent. They are not like cats who are more independent.

It is not fair to the dog to make it hold it's bladder for longer than that. As the bladder fills up, it becomes painful and harder to hold it. Don't make your pet suffer....take it out at least every 4-6 hours. If you can't be there, hire a Rover pet sitter.

Similar to other answers, it depends entirely on your dog's age, energy level, and breed. For example, many rescue pups (including mine) are prone to separation anxiety. Meanwhile, an older pug I sit is completely fine being left alone for hours. In either case, it's best to build up the time you leave your dog alone (ex: try 15 minutes to get the mail, 30 minutes, 1 hour, a few hours, etc) and always give them a nice long walk or game of fetch before you leave the house. A tired dog is a happy and well-behaved dog :)
